A(H1N1) - Food For Thoughts

We were all shocked yesterday but not surprised over the news that this Flu strain finally reaches our shore due to the movement of people of this globalized world!

Based on the details from the newspapers, the patient arrived on Wednesday morning assuming he went thru the health screening for fever at the airport twice, he then went home and only hospitalized on Thursday and the announcement to public came in on Friday.

The whole journey lasted at least for more than 48 hours since he touched down in KLIA before our authority made such announcement to the public. Is it not too slow? What wrong if we make this announcement on Wednesday that there is a patient admitted to a hospital and suspected to have A(H1N1) flu-like syndrome but subject to further testing? We have exposed those people who are at the hospital to say the least on Wednesday by the late announcement!

He could have met, to say the least, or infected lots of people i.e. co-passenger, immigration officer, duty free shop/cafe assistant, taxi drivers, his family, friends, hospital staff/visitors, ....etc whom he came to contact with. Is it not this sounds alarming!

Are the measures put in place at the airport adequate to protect the people? Did the officers in charged of this health screening at KLIA or even at the point of departure at Newark NY conducted their duties diligently?

Have we, the authorities or W.H.O. done enough? Even people should think before traveling during this period if they do not feel comfortable or have flu like syndrome... are they ignorant, naive, or just stupidity? Was it that the flu did not manifest during the said journey back home from NY?

I do not have an answer for this.......
